Personal Services

Spiritual Care
The spiritual needs of the residents are important to us. We have a beautiful, tranquil chapel and a supportive pastoral care staff available to residents and family members.

Social Services
Qualified social workers are on staff to ease the transition for both residents and families to the care facility. Our social workers focus on assisting the resident to reach their highest level of independent living possible. Discharge planning starts on day one for our Rehab to Home program. They connect the resident and families with needed resources. They are educated in Medicare, Medicaid and other insurances. Social Services assist with setting up services for home health, hospice or ordering equipment, which will be needed at home.

Recreation Services
St. Mary's Manor believes staying active and having fun are important parts of being healthy. The activity staff provides a wide range of activities that are tailored to individual residents and group interests. Our exercise programs enhance our resident's physical and mental health. The Wii games make it fun also! As a part of our intergenerational program, preschool and school age children frequently visit the Manor to share in resident activities.

Live entertainment brings a variety of music to the facility. There are organized activities such as spa time and art related groups.

Pet Therapy
Research over the years has shown there is a strong correlation between pet ownership and improved health. St. Mary's Manor embraces this philosophy by sharing our home with Baxter the cat, JoJo the cockatiel and Oreo the dutch rabbit. A golden retriever, Libby spends three days a week at the facility as well as other dogs who visit weekly.

Volunteer Services
We have more than 75 volunteers who assist with various activities and services, they provide individualized visits, provide music or escort residents on outings. If you wish to volunteer, please contact the volunteer coordinator at 816-228-5655.

Food Services
Our registered dietician plans delicious, healthy meals for our residents. Meals are a social event for many residents in our spacious dining rooms. We have open dining for all meals offering an 'always available menu' with flexible times to dine. Assistance is provided from staff as needed. Our dining room in the Residential Care Facility gives the appearance of a nice restaurant or a formal dining room at home. It has a separate private dining area which can be reserved for residents to entertain their guests.

Resident Rooms
There are private and semi private accommodations available. The little extra touches like wall to wall carpeting, wallpaper and up-to-date decorating make the choice more comfortable. Residents are encouraged to bring their special belongings to reflect their own personal tastes. The Rehab to Home private rooms are furnished with flat screen TV, recliner and soft lighting, giving the feeling of home. The private restroom is handicapped accessible.

Voice of the Patient

  • “I enjoyed both the classes and the exercise. I seemed to get better with the exercise program the longer I attended, which, of course, is the whole point!”
  • “I admired the professionalism of the staff. They were all very cheerful and kept the classes lively and enjoyable. They all are a credit to the hospital.”
  • “Everyone who knows me and my exercise regimen, including my doctors, did not think I would find value in Cardiac Rehab, but I did and it was thanks to the staff.”
  • “The bond that develops between the class participants was an unexpected bonus!”
  • “The most helpful part of the program was the quality care provided by the five nurses. While running on the treadmill, I watched them work with and encourage each of the other patients. You have a great staff!”

  • “This program is excellent; it was vital to my full recovery and restored health.”
  • “The program was outstanding. All of it was well planned and the staff was very professional; I appreciated their pleasant smiles and friendly voices.”
  • “The most helpful part of the program was clearly the nursing staff. They took time to clearly define and answer all questions and their working knowledge of anatomy was communicated in terms that all could understand. I especially benefited from the in-depth reviews concerning how the heart worked and how procedures and/or drugs could work to correct issues.”
  • “Thank you for your support and for guiding me through this difficult time. Words cannot express my gratitude for all you have done. Your kindness and compassion is greatly appreciated.”
  • “I was overwhelmed with your kindness and caring.”
  • “Thank you for your extraordinary kindness, guidance and support.”
  • “I could not have done this without you.”
  • “You all are my angels.”
  • “Thank you for your support in a time when I was freaking out.”
  • “The Breast Center put the care in health care.”
  • “I really did not have any comment about how it could have been better. I have been to (patient named 3 other area hospitals) and have had surgery at all three of those facilities. None of them even compare to St. Joseph. I’ve had very good experiences there. Your staff is very welcoming and if I have to have another procedure done. I plan on going to St. Joseph.”
  • “I think that the nurses did an excellent job in taking care of me – they were always there. They did just an excellent job-that’s what I really have to say. And the doctor too did an excellent job taking care of me. I found I got excellent care at St. Joe. I had a very good experience there and I highly recommend it. I had no problem whatsoever.”
